Desmond Tutu Peace Garden and Peace Trail

Written by

In 2009 the Peace Garden was created at Chinbrook Meadows to commemorate and celebrate Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s life and time in Grove Park between 1972 to 1975, who was curate at St. Augustine’s Church at the time.

Desmond Tutu himself returned to Grove Park in 2009 to open the garden, with children from local schools reading messages of peace and performing traditional African songs.

The theme of peace continues, with the Peace Trail leading to the Peace Pole erected at the same time on the embankments of Grove Park Nature Reserve.
