The Ringway Centre was established in 1980s, after the GPCG obtained planning permission to put two ex-GLC prefabs on the site.
It was named The Ringway Centre, as stopping The Ringway motorway was a key reason which had first brought the community together and why the Grove Park Community Group (GPCG) was later established. It was also the site where the motorway would have crossed, had the plans gone ahead.
The community played a central role in clearing and preparing the site and raising the money to install the prefabs. In 1991 a further grant allowed GPCG to buy and install the main hall, led by resident volunteers.
In June 2024 the Ringway Centre was given some TLC, with volunteers from Google joining the rest of the centre’s volunteers to pain the buildings and give it a fresh look.
