Celebrating National Tree Week with Planting & Astronomy

Written by

What an action packed day! Wild Rangers organised a number of activities today for families to enjoy.

We kicked off with a ‘Get to Know Your Tree Seeds’ session with everyone joining in to match the seed with the tree. We then planted some tree saplings, in celebration of National Tree Week. Three resistant elms went in, donated to the centre by the Butterfly Conservation Trust. Adults and kids joined in to plant the saplings together.

There was also an opportunity to explore the exhibition of participant graphic novels and psammead sculptures, made earlier in the year, part of the Borough of Culture activities organised by Wild Rangers.

In the late afternoon we were really pleased to welcome XXX from the Greenwich Planetarium who enlightened us with fascinating facts about the planets with his amazing slide show. We also welcomed Mrs Griffith, wife of late John Griffith who was the Chair for GPCG between XXX and XXX. John himself was an astronomer and the inspiration behind investigating and designating the rear gardens and Nature Reserve a Dark Sky Site in 19XXX.
