The Ringway Centre was full of smiles, laughter and conversation as residents of all ages came together for this year’s Grove Park Community Group Summer Fête. What began more than 50 years ago as a community organisation built on local people working together continues to thrive today, and this year’s event was a wonderful reminder of exactly why GPCG exists – to bring people together, strengthen local connections and create opportunities for everyone to get involved.
From the moment the gates opened, the atmosphere was buzzing. Families enjoyed live music, face painting, games, community stalls, local crafts, delicious food from the barbecue, refreshments from the café and the ever-popular raffle. More than 20 stallholders showcased local businesses, charities, community projects and talented makers, giving visitors plenty to explore while supporting local enterprise.
Behind the scenes, the event was a real team effort. Volunteers, trustees, performers, stallholders and local organisations all gave their time to make the day happen. The generosity of those who donated raffle prizes, ran activities, served food and drinks, and entertained the crowds demonstrated the strength of the community spirit that continues to define Grove Park.
The event was not only a fantastic social occasion but also an important fundraiser for the Ringway Centre and the work of Grove Park Community Group. The fête raised well over £1,000 after costs, providing valuable funds that will be reinvested into activities, events and services that benefit local people throughout the year.
While the financial success is something to celebrate, the true achievement cannot be measured in pounds alone. The conversations between neighbours, new friendships formed, children playing together, and local organisations supporting one another all reflected the bonds that make a community resilient and welcoming.
As one event finished, it also laid the foundations for many more to come. The Summer Fête once again showed what can be achieved when people share their time, skills and enthusiasm for the benefit of everyone.
Perhaps the most fitting moment came at the very end of the day. Once the visitors had gone home, members of Grove Park Community Group naturally came together to clear away tables, pack equipment, tidy the grounds and leave the Ringway Centre ready for the next event. It was a simple but powerful reminder that community isn’t just about celebrating together – it’s about working together too. That shared commitment has been at the heart of GPCG since it was founded, and it remains as strong today as ever.
